Halloween Started a Week Early on Twitter #litf08
It’s a rough day for Ashley Todd, who became the poster girl of “False Police Reports” with a brand new “B” scratched on her cheek. It’s an even rougher day for the website Notes from the Field | Life in the Field which is billed as “a group blog starring the 50 College Republican field representatives and you”. The ‘YOU’ part is an unattended Twitter widget with the hash tag of #litf08 for anyone to tweet to. Read the rest of this entry »

Another Investigation Into Palin’s Expenses
It seems that Team McCain can’t have a day go by without another shoe dropping off Governor Palin. Now the the Associated Press has found reports that the Palin children had their travel expenses paid for by the State of Alaska. Some events that the Palin clan attended the children weren’t even invited to. One trip was to watch their dad, Todd Palin, race a snow mobile and another was a five day/four night stay to attend a four hour conference.
The investigation said that some organizers were surprised to see the children in attendance. The total of travel reimbursements is at $21,012 for the children. Also there are records of $55,000 spent on travel on a State owned plane, but the charges would not have been any lower if the children did not travel on it. This follows the reports and inquiry into $17,000 per diem charges Palin turned in for living in her family home 40 miles away from Anchorage for 300 days.
What is most concerning is that some is that when questioned about the reports Palin would write on the reports “to draw two separate raffle tickets”, “First Family attending” and “First Family invited” on them.
If I was Senator McCain I think I would have to seriously have to ask Palin to step down and take on a new Vice Presidential partner. Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee or even pull out another surprise like Senator Lamar Alexander.

Does Obama Scare You?
I’ve had so many e-mails about the Sarah Palin Halloween mask I had wrote about last week and about half ask why no Obama mask. Well I did a little digging and found one a Costume Kingdom and a bonus to boot. The shop still is able to ship to you in time for Halloween and still has plenty of politcal mask, Star Wars costumes for all ages, superheros like Iron Man, the Hulk, Spiderman, Batman and Captain America (for the upcoming movie). They have adult costumes too and seeing how Halloween is on a Friday this year there will be more Halloween parties for the grown-ups. Pet costumes are also well represented in all themes.
So if you lean to the left or right you can find the George W. Bush, John McCain, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and of course Sarah Palin. If you’re the adventure seeker there Indiana Jones. Ladies if you want to pull some eyeballs out of their sockets there’s is some sexy costumes also. I did get a coupon code you can use to save 30% when you use the link here. A Question
I’ve read that Boston Legal is in it’s last season and watching the first two episodes I have been wondering what the ending of the series would be. Will Denny Crane die or will be Alan Shore? I’m thinking it will be Alan Shore as he has spectulated in early episodes of The Practice and Boston Legal that his end will be he’s murdered.

AmericanSingles.com is a Lot Cheaper Than a Criminal Attorney

Sandy Binkley
Somedays I wouldn’t want to be a teenager again, sometimes I wouldn’t mind it. In what is becoming common in the news, a teacher at Portland (TN) High School is accused of having sex with a 17 year old male student in March of 2008.
The boy’s parents reported the crime. After looking at the teacher I really don’t think that the event is going to leave any real long term damage to the boy. Things have changed since I’ve been in high school, if I had her as a teacher I would have thought I hit the lottery.
When you see a pretty woman like Binkley and you hear that what she’s accused of, there’s only question that comes to mind. Hasn’t she heard of AmericanSingles.com? She could have signed up for free and found a better match than a seventeen year old.
Hopefully everything in Portland will be resolved and everyone will get on with a normal life. If there is a moral to this story it has to be “AmericanSingles.com is lot cheaper than a criminal attorney”.
UPDATE October 1, 2008
Today two additional students have report they have had sexual relationships with Binkley. If this true, she would probably like OnlineBootyCall.com better.

A Good Source of Fiber Before Minnesota Court
Arstechnica has a story that Bridgewater Telephone filed a lawsuit against the town of Monticello, Minnesota to stop the town from using a city bond issue to fund the construction of a fiber-optic network. According to Law.com it was a project that that both Bridgewater and Charter Communications admitted they would not bring to the town in the near future. Bridgewater evidently didn’t want another competitor in the market, especially City Hall.
Here in Morristown, TN. the city utility district created the MUS FiberNET, a fiber to the home (FTTH) network division, around two years ago. The utility’s website says the system was funded through ”general obligation bonds issued by the City of Morristown“. The city did this to give citizens an economic choice over the local cable franchise, which is Charter. Charter ran a lot of advertisements to fight MUS Fibernet and keep customers when the network launched. I’m not a FiberNET customer myself, but that shouldn’t infer that I think the system isn’t any good. The choice for staying with the cable is mainly been about not disturbing anything I’ve already got.
While Charter is not a party to the lawsuit against Monticello, but does serve the area. It doesn’t keep them from watching the case closely. With a stock that’s trading barely over $1.00, Charter maybe having to watch their pennies and is avoiding heavy legal fees.
I really don’t like the idea of government or a government funded agencies getting into competition with the private sector. In the case of broadband internet, I think this is a gray area. In the world we live and work in broadband is a precious commodity that powers industry and commerce. It is as essential as electrity, water, gas and sewer services. There are going to be cases where the private sector can not afford to deliver affordable broadband service and keep investors happy. Unfortunately the majoritry of the cases are in rural areas like East Tennessee. All communities need to have a broadband initiative if they want to remain competitive in industry, education and overall quality of life. Life would bottom out without e-mail, YouTube and Facebook. When the court hears outs at the Monticello case it should consider that public owned broadband internet can be an economic engine for any sized town. Having broadband readily available makes it possible to recieve a “Get 250 Free Business Cards Today!” e-mail, open websites like AntiqueCarSales.biz or spark the next Internet giants like Google and Ebay.
